My score for phb_clst for the first concert by composers collective Granular Synthesis. Part of the Agoraphobia set in which each of the five core members composed a short section of the complete work with the ideas of space and anxiety.

For clarinet, drum kit, piano and live laptop processing. All instruments are kept in time via stopwatches. Each performer is to interpret the notes as accurately as possible, using the staves as guides for pitch and relating line thickness to volume and the horizontal width to note length. Laptop processing involves attack triggers that set off bursts of granular playback and synthesised kick drum tones.

I am a part of a new composers collective called granular synthesis and we are putting on our first show at Callaway Auditorium on Wednesday the 28th of April. After this show we are really interested in building the collective and expanding the horizons – allowing other composers to have works played in professional concerts. My works in this mostly involve max/MSP synthesiser improvisation, and max based triggers of audio sampling.

Libertas is the first show organised by new composers collective Granular Synthesis and features a focus on improvisation and spur of the moment creations. For the inaugural show the group decided to compose a program of all new works that crosses the boundaries of electronic music, classical composition and modern rock experimentalism.

Works displayed in this concert include the Agoraphobia set in which each composer has contributed a section, audio/visual live scoring and multiple pieces for instruments manipulated by electronics. This concert features only works of short duration in an attempt to cover as much ground as possible and to smoothly combine an eclectic multitude of music and sound art.

Libertas is a concert that focuses on the nexus between composition and improvisation. Each member of Granular Synthesis has approached this concept in a creative and unique way, bringing you an exciting program of works that vary from structured compositions, electro-acoustic experimentation and band based improvisation.

I have had my Japan Tour EP two clouds up for a while now, I know some of you have downloaded and listened to it but for those who haven’t had a chance yet it will be coming down shortly. Grab it here. After that you can purchase it from my (temporary) bandcamp page. All steps to prepare for a new album release, hopefully coming later this year. But for now, please enjoy.

This EP features 23 minutes of dynamic laptop processing, electro-acoustic works and exploration into sound. The 4 tracks are concise and refined, the culmination of two years of performances, installations and compositions by an emerging sound artist. Here field recordings, guitar, vocals and electronic tones mesh into a greater whole, mystifying and immersing the listener.

Firstly a big thanks to everyone came down for the packed out WARP CHAMBER last night. My audio / visual set was a bit messy but came together ok at the last minute. Adam Trainer, Salamander and Solar Barge all played great sets and had unique approaches to the audio / visual conundrum. More chambers coming soon.

With the inception of Warp Chamber, the Velvet Lounge will be converted into a fully-fledged audiovisual theater, with windows facing the street entirely blacked out, couches rearranged in rows facing the stage, two additional speakers set up to create a surround-sound environment, and an array of visuals displayed over projectors and TV monitors, as well as oscillating light rays and slowly morphing clouds of smoke.

My work hypnogenia is still up at Scitech. So far it has been there 2.5 weeks and roughly 1,500 people have seen / played with the work which is fantastic.

The aim of this piece was to develop the work in a way that made it directly interactive and build upon the synaesthetic relationship by giving it a spatial dimension. The melding of movement, sight and sound makes the work interesting to play with and generate unique sounds for each shape, position and movement.

Thanks so much to Claire Pannell and her Analog to Digital event, and of course for Scitech for letting me keep the work up so long!
I’m hoping to work with Scitech more in the future, generating interest and awareness in sound art from the ground up.
